Shiba Inu Information

Shiba Inu means simply "brushwood dog" in Japanese. This little dog is very popular on dog exhibitions. Shiba Inu dogs are great bird dogs, guards, and hunters for small game. A Japanese Shiba Inu breed is affectionate, friendly, and sensitive which makes this dog ideal for shows or a little fine pet. Good Shiba Inu care involves giving this little hunting dog plenty of exercise and a daily brushing.

Shiba Inu Adoption

If you consider a Shiba Inu adoption from a rescue or a Shiba Inu breeder, do know that a Shiba Inu dog is very affectionate to its own family members yet will stand its ground against strangers. Although they can tap your hand for a rub, the next second they can be nowhere to be found hoping you want to play with him.

A healthy Shiba Inu temperament will ask for lots of exercise. When you lock them up in a small space or room, all they will be thinking about is ways to escape! Make sure that when you keep Shiba Inu’s in your garden, being a hunting dog, they know how to dig under fences and escape.

Also note that apart from barking, these dogs are well known for their typical Shiba Inu behavior: a scary kind of screaming. Just know that a decent amount of Shiba Inu training evolves around keeping this screaming at bay.

The Shiba Inu is one of the oldest and one of the smallest of six different Japanese breeds. In fact, one theory about the name shiba is that it simply denotes “small”; however, it may also mean “brushwood” in reference to the brilliant red brushwood trees that so closely match the breed’s red coat and through which they hunted. The word “Inu” does not mean god, but rather it means dog.

Hi! I’m interested in getting a Shiba Inu puppy, but I live in Jamaica. I’m not sure about the laws involving bringing animals to this country but if anyone has any up for adoption I’d love to! I have a shih tzu poodle who is highly energetic and is relatively big for that mixed breed and I was thinking he could use a friend. Thanks to anyone who can help, or who I can help by adopting!

I am looking for more information on adopting a black Shiba Inu for my soon to be 9 year old boy. I’m not ready to adopt the pet in the next month and probably won’t make a firm decision until next summer; however, I want to be prepared for the addition of a puppy to our home. (We currenlty have three cats and will probably have a ferret or two by the end of the year.) My boy has his heart set on getting a puppy and I’ve never been that into dogs. I love animals and have always had pets, but never a dog. I live in Wisconsin and do not wish to travel far to adopt a black Shiba Inu, nor do I wish to pay an arm and a leg to transport one to me. I’d rather stay local (within the state of WI). If you have additional information that is informative for me, please let me know. Thank you.
